Every May our Crewroom roadshow team looks forward to the National Schools’ Regatta. With parents picnicking whilst watching their children race, it’s one of the most enjoyable events on the rowing calendar. Many international oarsmen and women started their racing career at this regatta and it’s always great to meet so many competitors from the most junior to elite young athletes.

The National Schools' Regatta 2018 was no exception; Dorney Lake provided a stunning backdrop and electric atmosphere with fast, fun, competitive racing.

With the sun shining all weekend our Air Heads proved to be as popular as ever. The cleverly designed longer peaks with dark underside reduce glare on the water whilst the Vapour-X fabric wicks away sweat helping competitors to stay cool, dry and focused on the race in hand.

The heat proved a great excuse to get those legs out and luckily we arrived with a stack of Crewroom shorts. Everyone loved their clever features from secure zip pockets and lightweight technical fabric to reflective detailing. As always, Crewroom designs prove that being functional doesn’t have to look dull.

Despite the heat our North West hoodies sold like hot cakes and it was lovely to see so many people add a staple Crewroom piece to their kit bag - comments graciously received on how the four-way stretch breathable fabric felt so soft on the skin. Despite the heat we also sold a number of our newest Crewroom jacket, inspired by the beautiful Lake Vrynwy in Wales.

The organisation of this regatta has gone from strength to strength and we were really pleased to see some new recycling and environmentally friendly initiatives. For the first time the event aimed to be single-use plastic bottle free with freshwater drinking tanks dotted around the site and complimentary aluminium water bottles made available. There were plenty of recycling bins and both spectators and competitors were encouraged to litter pick throughout the day. But, most impressively, we spotted rubbish bins actually constructed from plastic bottles.

Sustainability is at the core of everything we do at Crewroom and we are excited to be associated with a like-minded event, especially when the younger generations are involved.

Congratulations to everyone involved this year – it was a great regatta and we look forward to returning to the National Schools Regatta 2019!
