The new rowing season is in full swing, many of you will be ordering new kit so we thought we'd feature the JL unisuit and explain why it really is the don of all unisuits.

If you're looking for something that will last and endure daily training routines and multiple washes then the JL unisuit is the one for you.

JL was founded in 1982 by Joline Esparza who rowed on the USA national team. Back then rowers were wearing polyester shorts, baggy tees and cotton vests, all of which were not really fit for purpose. This inspired Joline to develop the JL unisuit and, using her knowledge of elite sport combined with her design and seamstress experience, the first JL unisuit was brought to market. The rest, as they say, is history.

JL really do know their stuff and have paid great attention to detail. The men's unisuit is cut ‘tank’ style with room around the arm and extra length in the back for comfort. The bottoms are half lined so that you only get extra padding where it’s needed. They’ve even thought about the way the fabric stretches – so it stretches width ways on the chest when you breathe and lengthwise on the bottoms where you stretch forward and back during the rowing motion.

The JL Unisuit

The women's unisuit features a v-front waistline which visually elongates the torso, giving a flattering finish. There’s a coolmax modesty liner in the top and the gusset is a diamond shape so that the four seams in the shorts don’t join together in an uncomfortable bundle.

As well as the design features, JL use their own fabric called drywick. It's incredibly durable and colourfast and, unlike cotton or cheap polyester alternatives, it wicks and breathes - pretty important for such a high intensity sport.

On top of all this, JL have developed over 70 styles of unisuit along with sublimated options which means they can create fully bespoke kit for any club.

So, in a nutshell, the JL unisuit is the best of the best. If you're looking for an off the shelf training unisuit you can order them online here. Or, if you're thinking of upgrading your team kit, contact us on enquiries@crewroom.co.uk and we'll work with you to create a fully bespoke unisuit.
