On 21 February, The Muscat Marathon will take place with thousands of competitors from over 56 countries taking on the 42.2km route through Oman’s premier lifestyle destination.
This year, with an increased focus on the environmental impact of such a large event, Crewroom has been chosen to supply runners with 14,000 sustainable race shirts, using our signature Vapour-X performance fabric.
First organised by Muscat Road Runners in 2012 with 135 competitors, Muscat Marathon has quickly grown in stature. In 2017, the event became known as the Al Mouj Muscat Marathon with Al Mouj Muscat, Oman Sail and Muscat Road Runners joining forces.
By 2019 the marathon, half marathon and 10KM routes were all certified by world-running organisation AIMS, aligning the event with International Association of Athletic Federation (IAAF) standards. This year runners will be competing in six race categories across a two-day festival of running.
With over 56 different nationalities represented, the marathon has acquired the reputation as the most iconic event on the Sultanate of Oman’s sporting calendar. As a premium event for runners, organisers wanted to ensure competitors were given a race shirt that not only ticked the sustainable box, but which also offered technical and performance qualities which could cope with the extreme heat.
The two key ingredients in our Vapour-X® fabric are bamboo charcoal and recycled polyester which originates from plastic bottles. Bamboo is a fast growing and sustainable resource which grows naturally in a managed environment. When the bamboo is cut, it is carbonised into charcoal particles and blended with PET recycled polyester to form the unique Vapour-X performance fibre.
The result is a fabric that is wicking and breathable, anti-microbial, offers thermal regulation and includes UV protection – which enabled us to deliver premium quality running shirts to this premium event.
