New to rowing and wondering what you’ll need to wear? We’ve compiled a guide on the core pieces of rowing clothing you’ll need in your kit bag, keeping you covered both on and off the water.

Rowing Suit

When it comes to your rowing suit, you want to invest in something that delivers on both comfort and performance. The rowing motion is unique, so the fabric needs to be durable yet soft, and supportive yet stretchy. Trust us, additional details like flatlock seams, no-rub hems and extra padding in the seat area will be a godsend when you're putting in the distance on the ergo or on water.

The Crewroom rowing suit delivers on all of the above, and more! Extra details include an internal gusset to keep your garment fresher for longer, fully opaque fabric – so no ‘grinning’ when you stretch, and a selection of our rowing suits are made with sustainability in mind, incorporating recycled plastic waste, relaunched as performance fabric.

Baselayer

The baselayer is a body-fit garment, and its job is to protect your core and help regulate your body temperature. So, apart from the need to be sweat-wicking, breathable and quick-drying, you’ll want it to feel really comfortable against the skin, all while allowing for full manoeuvrability.

We offer three core baselayers: The Classic Baselayer, The Seamless Baselayer and The Elements Top, all of which offer slightly different technical attributes and fit.

Mid-layer

For a slightly thicker layer with extra product features such as a secure zip pocket, cuff for contactless cards and internal headphone port, many rowers opt for our bestselling North West Hoodie – a versatile item that can be worn as a thicker baselayer or thrown on over the top as an extra layer.

Rowing Jacket

You'll need a jacket designed specifically for rowing, and it's a piece of kit that needs to tick a lot of boxes. It needs to be splash-proof, yet breathable. It needs stretch to allow you to move freely, and the jacket should be shorter in the front (to stop fabric catching during rowing) and longer at the back to protect the lower lumbar region.

Our Tundra Rower ticks all these boxes and some. The lightweight shell fabric is waterproof, and the stretchy side panels allow great manoeuvrability. We've added reflective branding for greater safety and now offer a fully hi-vis colourway. You'll also find a side pocket for stashing a water bottle and grip tape on the shoulders!

Cap or Visor

When you’re on the water and in the zone, minimising distraction is key. That’s why every rower has a good cap or visor on board – to keep the sweat from your brow and protect your eyes from the sun.

Our Air Head range has been designed with the rower in mind. You’ll find longer peaks with a dark underside to reduce distracting glare, super-soft towelling bands to absorb the sweat and extremely comfortable wicking and breathable fabric.

The visor comes with a soft stretch band, while the cap includes an adjustable size strap to ensure the perfect fit (and no brain ache!).

Seasonal Extras

During the colder months, you’ll want to protect your core a little more, so consider adding rowing leggings to your kit bag too. Featuring a high waistband which offers complete coverage and slightly looser fit around the waist, they allow for full reach and comfortable movement during the rowing motion.

When it comes to the hotter months, there’s one piece of rowing equipment you’ll find in many a kit bag – rowing sunglasses! Apart from the important UVA/UVB protection, we have to admit, they do add that extra bit of cool!
